pastor mak preached abt what kind of God we have.
bible text: John 2:1-11 (when the wine runs out)
Jesus turned water to wine when the wine ran out in a banquet. that was also the first miracle he performed which is what made it so significant. Jesus specializes in miracles, He Himself IS a miracle :)
Firstly, He cares for our essentials - Admit our failings.
Jesus began His ministry by turning water into wine. Wine represents joy, and He had come to restore joy back into us. He does care about everything in our lives, even the things we ourselves don't care about. We need God to come into our lives, for we can't manage our lives ourselves. We must take the step towards God, so as to receive joy and provision - just like Mary approached Jesus to seek help from Him when the wine ran out.
In our lives, obstacles act like rocks standing in our path. We summon all our strength to push them away, but they stubbornly remain. Finally, we are exhausted and weary, and we give up as we have used up all our strength. God asks us, "Are you using all your strength?", and we reply irritably that yes, we have, and wonder why our efforts aren't recognised. The truth is that we haven't actually used all our strength as we haven't approached God for help. He is a Father who loves us, and is willing to give us strength if we ask. Therefore, we should humble ourselves when we are weary, and surrender it all to God. He will help you pull through, He will strengthen you :) "I can do everything through Christ who gives me strength" - Philippians 4:13
Secondly, He changes us into the extraordinary - Act in faith.
Jesus is not changing our looks, He is changing our hearts. The heart of Jesus is that he aims for transformation. Just like he had changed water into wine, He will change what is ordinary into something extraordinary. He wants to touch our insignificant selves, so that we will be of worth :) "Allow the Master's hand to transform you". A miracle is 100% God + 100% us, therefore, step forth in faith and do whatever He tells you to. We need to co-operate with God. Let your faith be never-ending, we set our own boundaries of our faith. Rid of those boundaries today, and start believing :) Exercise your faith, and let it grow in both quantity and quality.
Lastly, He celebrates us with extravagence. - Accept the Father.
God is a Father who gives us more than we need, He lavishes us with gifts from above :) God does whatever He does in abundance. Thus, "He is more than enough for us". It is said in Ephesians 3:20, that "Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we can ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us."
yeapp, that was the sermon for yesterday, i just felt like typing it out :) haha. take care everyone, seeyou next sat :) :) God bless your week!
